Organizing a DWF: Key Steps

First things first.  The next time you drive somewhere without a lot of traffic, turn on your flashers.  It's that button with red triangles, one inside the other. REMEMBER!  Your turn signals are disabled when the flashers are on.  While DWF and you want to change lanes or make a turn either a: turn off your flashers or b: use old-fashioned hand signals.

The last thing you want to do is give a policeman a separate, valid excuse for pulling you over so it is vital that you drive EXTRA attentively to all driving rules when DWF.  ANYTIME you see or hear police or fire lights and sirens, TURN YOUR FLASHERS OFF!  Don't let the argument be made that you were contributing to public danger or confusing people.  When it comes to the law, you want your actions to be impeccably legal.. except maybe for DWF.

Post standard letter sized statements about what you are doing in the side, rear windows of your car.  Here's an example (below) that you are welcome to use (right click, Save As) or let your creative side go wild.  Well, pretty wild. ( These magnets will hold your sign on the side of your car up to about 50 miles an hour if you put several on the forward edge of the sign.) Using the magnets allows you to put the signs inside when you are parked.  

It is important to keep the message simple and consistent.  In the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, money was declared equal to speech and therefore unconstrained by campaign funding laws.  It is well established that flying flags from your car, plastering your car with stickers, posters, slogans.. no matter how noxious, is protected speech.  Our contention is that if money=speech, if covering your car with political slogans is protected speech, if flashing your headlights to warn others of danger is protected speech, then all use of flashers are protected speech.
